Ranchi, Dec. 14: Hosts Bishop Westcott Boys’ beat St Thomas by a whisker during Kaho What’s Your Idea, an inter-school skills fest with 25 schools and 300 participants, part of the pan-India quiz fest organised by Derek O’Brien and Associates.
The quiz is being conducted in 100 Indian cities, and Ranchi was the 54th venue, quizmaster Andrew Scolt said.
Only six selected made it to Ranchi finals after a preliminary written test. St Thomas, Oxford Public School, DAV Public School, DAV Senior Secondary, Bariatu, DPS and Bishop Westcott Boys went through rounds such as logical reasoning, memory test, storytelling, rapid fire and life skills.
It was a close call between St Thomas and Bishop Westcott, while the rest trailed behind.
St Thomas boy Aditya Kumar displayed logical reasoning and sharp memory while his Bishop Westcott opponent Dhrubojit Bhattacharjee stayed cool under pressure. In the last question of the concluding round, St Thomas fumbled, handing the winner’s crown to Bishop Westcott School. The latter will appear in a written test to qualify for semi-finals.
Conceived by eminent quizmaster Derek O’Brien, the format of the contest goes beyond rote learning, combining learning with fun. According to organisers, top 16 teams from across India selected on the basis of the written test will compete at the grand finale in Mumbai in February.
