Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), Ranchi, got a new chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) in Avijit Ghosh, director (mining) of Hindustan Copper Limited on Thursday.

Ghosh, who replaced R. Misra after his three-year tenure got over on December 31, is the 21st CMD to lead HEC ever since it was set up on November 15, 1958.

Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), under the Union ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions had recommended Ghosh's name on June 26, 2014.

'My top priority is growth. We need to stabilise operations of the company in the first place. It will be my endeavour to ensure that HEC achieves the desired growth in all sectors. Besides, I would like to make HEC a leader of the ongoing Make in India campaign,' Ghosh told The Telegraph.

A passout from St John's School in Ranchi and an alumnus of Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad, Ghosh was the assistant vice-president of Jindal Steel and Power Limited and was posted in Ranchi before he joined Hindustan Copper Limited as its director (mining) in 2010.

Ghosh has also held key managerial positions in a number of private and public sector companies. He was adjudged Eminent Mining Engineer by the Institution of Engineers (India) in 2012.
