Ranchi, July 23: Chief secretary Rajiv Gauba today urged industrialists to shrug off pessimism while highlighting the measures taken by the state and central governments towards reducing the hassles of doing business in the country under Make in India initiative.

Gauba, who was speaking as chief guest at a daylong workshop on Make in India at a Ranchi hotel, said there was lack of awareness about the facilities being offered under the campaign to boost manufacturing sector in the country.

"Though a lot needs to be done to achieve the desired goal, proper dissemination of information about the newly initiated facilities will help industries draw a lot of benefit to improve their businesses," the chief secretary observed.

Organised by the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP), under the Union commerce and industries ministry, in association with the state and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), the workshop was attended by about 80 senior officials of various departments and entrepreneurs.

"India is likely to overtake China in terms of population by 2025, when the country's average age will be 29 years that is most of the people will be in the productive age group," the chief secretary observed.

Gauba added that the government would play the role of a facilitator while industries should take the opportunity to help create jobs.

DIPP joint secretary Rajiv Aggarwal said standard operating system had been laid down clearly and there was ample scope for growth. He stressed on the need for change in mindset of both government officials and industry stakeholders to achieve the goal.

State industries secretary Himani Pande made a power-point presentation, elaborating on the measures taken by the state government.

"The state has taken multiple steps - boosting use of information technology, integrated single window clearance system, simplified tax compliances and self certification schemes - to ease doing business," she said.
