Ranchi, Oct. 28: Shruti Shambhavi (22) was awarded the gold medal in microbiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at the convocation ceremony held recently.
Shruti, a final-year medical student, received the Sardari Lal Kalra Gold Medal for being the top scorer in forensic medicine and anatomy.
Shruti came tenth in the CBSE medical examination. Before admission to AIIMS, Shruti was studying at Maulana Azad Medical College where she stood 5th.
Moreover, she has qualified for AFMC, Pune and Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore.
Shruti, while speaking to The Telegraph over the telephone from New Delhi, said that she aims complete her postgraduation first and then follow it up with a specialisation in a subject of her choice.
“This is just the preliminary stage of my career. Whatever I have achieved, it is due to my parents and teachers and especially A.K. Singh, the vice-principal of DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, who has been my guide,” said Shruti.
She plans to go abroad for higher studies.
“I might go to the US, but nothing has been decided as yet,” Shruti added.
“After taking admission at Maulana Azad Medical College I learnt that I had made it to AIIMS. On my parents suggestion I opted for AIIMS because it’s the best medical institute in the country,” the topper said.
Shruti has completed her matriculation from Bishop Westcott Girls’ School and her Plus-Two from DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali. She is a resident of Rani Bagan, Bariatu Housing Colony.
While studying at DAV, Shruti won many awards like the S.B. Srivastava Memorial Award for scoring the highest marks in English.
In her school days, too, she not only excelled in academics but also in extra curricular activities.
While in school, she also won gold in Indian National Biology Olympiad 2004 at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, which was organised by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.
“I also qualified in the Indian National Chemistry Olympiad,” Shruti further added.
Shruti’s father is a city-based physician S.C Dutta at Sadar Hospital.
“We attended the convocation ceremony. But then I told her that these are small awards and there is more such accolades waiting in store for her,” Dutta said.
