MS: Martial arts like karate enhance a person's sixth sense, power of anticipation and concentration. They make one confident and ready for adversities. They build a foolproof self-defence mechanism
What kind of training is essential?
We teach how household items such as a spoon or a glass or even a pin can be used as a weapon to confront your enemy. Students are taught about vital points in the body where an attack can leave the enemy vulnerable
The governor has asked varsities to make martial arts training compulsory for college girls. What do you think?
It is a great decision to empower the fair sex. The state should consider training school students too. Let all our girls grow up to be Kali and Durga
Does the state have adequate number of mentors?
Yes, for primary training. We have as many as 50 instructors at present. There are trainers associated with one or two more organisations too
It is a common belief that training in martial arts can be tough for girls.
Says who? If a girl can devote 45-60 minutes five days a week, she can learn how to fight just as good as any of her male fellow students
Are training modules expensive?
No. Training charges are usually very nominal. Our monthly fee is only Rs 500, excluding cost of uniform and grading examinations
Why don’t the youth look at karate as a career option?
Lack of a proper education policy, perhaps. If every school has a mandatory post for a martial art trainer, the career scope can increase
Do you need a special place to provide training?
No. Martial arts can be taught anywhere — in a room, on the ground or on a hillock
What are the most important things in martial art?
Quick decision and swift action. A person trains not only to fight, but also to realise when not to fight
Are there precautions to be taken during training?
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Do not be overconfident. Learn properly and practice regularly till your muscles are conditioned for quick and forceful action.
