Ranchi, June 10: Flimsy research proposals by PhD aspirants are dogging Ranchi University (RU) authorities who are trying hard to ensure quality research work.
Research proposals such as “Naxal problem in India”, and “Atrocity against tribal girls due to dowry” are some of the vague topics submitted to the RU’s research board headed by vice-chancellor A.A. Khan.
“How can a research scholar with limited resources study the problem of Naxalism across the country? The topic should have been with special reference to any other Naxal infested state or district,” Khan told The Telegraph.
RU is presently holding research board meetings of different faculties at regular intervals as over 1,000 proposals are lined up for mandatory clearance.
“Research board has now set a deadline of July 31 to ensure the concerned research scholar is more specific about proposals.
The Concerned Department Research Council (DRC) and deans would first scan the topics before it comes for the purview of the research board in next meeting.” added Prasad.
In many cases, the research proposals date back to 2008 and 2009 which were duly cleared by the former DRCs and deans.
“We have asked the scholars to describe the exact methodology and to improve the proposals,” said the vice-chancellor.
