Ranchi, Jan. 1: Despite the nip in the air, Ranchiites braved the weather to gyrate into the New Year.
With simmering models, ballerinas and high-watt music in clubs and hotels, revellers couldn’t have asked for more. From hotels to clubs and even makeshift tents put up in localities, citizens did not wait to let the moment go a waste.
Hotel Capitol Hill was done up in all deep red with witch hats kept on each table for guests to wear for the midnight moment. Models from Mumbai and Calcutta — especially flown in to flaunt expensive winter collections of leading brands — burnt the ramp as they sashayed before the gathering. Even before the models could reach the green room, DJs Afzal and Faizal took over and belted out rocking numbers.
The guests, in black and red, took over the stage at Capitol Hill while the performers took a break. Even elderly couples could not stop themselves and gave in to the pulsating music.
Ranchi Club also had geared up well for its members to have a memorable time. The club christened the event “Yadon Ki Baraat” — Back To The Future — and had put glowing lights spirally all along the entrance and pathway leading to the multipurpose hall. The open space in the club was decorated with a colourful canopy of satin and blue-violet balloons. The club authorities, for the first time, created an artificial 1,500sqft wooden dance floor to house all those who wanted to shake a leg. Track singers from Calcutta, dressed in vibrant costumes, mesmerised the audience and the dancers as they took turns to come and sing with the foot-romping crowd.
The bar, Madhushala, was decked on one side of the huge space and was covered from all sides to make the enclosure cosy. “The show was great and the energy level of members made everyone forget the chill. As always, the programme was a big hit and everyone enjoyed throughout. Ours is a family club and everyone is known to each other which bonds the members closely,” said Jyoti Bajaj, a club member.
The much-hyped Russian dancers who performed at Gymkhana Club made a late appearance. The duo — Shwetlana Potash and Vera Rashumova — entered the main stage with a flash and danced to peppy numbers punched out by DJ Dippy along with other members of the club. The Gymkhana Club had a feel of the pharaohs of Egypt with pyramids placed all around the cricket ground that turned dance floor. “The dancers kept people entertained throughout the night,” said club administrator D.K. Vishwakarma.
