As many as 100 members of families displaced during the construction of Dimna dam staged a daylong rally in front of the district collectorate on Tuesday, demanding compensation from Tata Steel.
Protesters, who gave a one-month deadline to the district administration to ensure that they were compensated, warned of a fast-unto-death if their demand was not met.
Around 150 families were displaced due to the construction of the dam in the 1940s. Agitators, under the aegis of Jharkhand Mukti Vahini, submitted a memorandum to additional district magistrate (law and order) Ajit Shanker.
“We have told the district administration that there have been many meetings between Tata Steel, administration and us, but nothing materialised,” said the outfit convener Madan Mohan.
