Jamshedpur: Digital fare display boards will soon be installed at various important stations under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway.
Bhaskar, the senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur division, on Wednesday said the facility, which would help passengers to know about the fares between the originating and destination stations, would be introduced at Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Jharsuguda and Rourkela.
"Talks are on with an IT company, which will help us introduce the display device at the entrance and near the ticket counters. This will help in removing confusion among passengers regarding train fares for various destinations. The digital display boards will indicate fares for all categories of seats/berths in mail, express and passenger trains," said Bhaskar, who is also the spokesperson for the Chakradharpur railway division.
Officials at Tatanagar said the move would help passengers. "Usually, passengers are not aware of the fares. They come to know about it only after procuring a ticket. But with the introduction of the display board, they can see the fare structure of all originating as well as through trains," said H.K. Balmuchu, adding that the new facility will be more beneficial for passengers who opt for unreserved tickets.
An official at the engineering wing of Chakradharpur station said the digital board would have bright display and clear visibility. "If there are any changes in the fare structure, it can be easily updated. The display board is designed to consume less power."
The Chhotanagpur Passenger Association welcomed the latest initiative.
"Fare display board is a must on railway station premises. We had recommended such boards in a meeting with the officials of the Chakradharpur division," said Arun Tiwari, general secretary of the association.
