The Ganga Sutlej Express, now rechristened as the Ganga Sutlej Covid-19 Special, from Dhanbad to Ferozepur in Punjab, left with around 1,630 passengers in 20 sleeper and AC compartments. The special became the first train to leave the Dhanbad railway station in 112 days.
The special is one of the 80 trains around the country which resumed services on Saturday.
Instead of its usual departure time of 9.20pm, the train left Dhanbad station half an hour late, at 9.50pm. It will, however, reach Ferozepur at the usual time of 10.45am on September 14. For its return journey, the train will leave Ferozepur on September 14 at 4.10pm and reach Dhanbad at 4.55am on September 16.
The rush for tickets for the train had forced railway authorities in Dhanbad to increase the number of ticket counters at the station.
All the coaches have been fully sanitised.
