Ranchi, July 3: It’s options galore for students who have graduated this year.
Ranchi University (RU) has come up with a string of postgraduate courses to keep them rooted in the state.
Along with the usual MBA, there is something for everyone. For those interested in digging up the past, there is a course on archaeology while the ones who like shiny, pretty things can opt for gemology. A degree course on water harvesting is the perfect choice for students wanting to conserve nature.
RU has shown the green light to Gossner College, which had submitted a proposal to launch an MBA institute on the campus. This apart, the university has decided to start a master course in archaeology and museology under its history department. On the other hand, geology department will offer a one-year postgraduate diploma course in gemology and water harvesting.
Pro vice-chancellor of the university V.P. Sharan said, “There will be placement assistance for the postgraduate programmes in archaeology and museology. The students can get jobs in archaeological departments of the government as well as in museums. Graduates of history honours only can apply.”
“We will get teachers from Central University of Jharkhand and Patna University. Besides, we will also invite experts from the Archaeological Survey of India (Ranchi office) and museums to teach the students,” he added.
Meanwhile, with the go-ahead for the MBA programme, Gossner College now joins the league of Xavier Institute of Social Service, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, and Institution of Science and Management, Pundag. “The varsity has approved the course for Gossner College. A circular will be released soon,” Sharan said.
On the other hand, St Xavier’s College has plans to offer a four-year integrated BEd course.
“The state human resource department has asked us to introduce this course as there is a dearth of trained teachers in Jharkhand. It is still in the planning stage and we will launch the course in the 2012 academic year,” said principal Father Nicholas Tete.
