Jamshedpur, April 8: The Union ministry for rural development has adjudged East Singhbhum as one of the ?best peforming? districts for utilising over 90 per cent funds allocated for the Sampurna Gramin Rozgar Yojna, a Centre-sponsored scheme for the development of rural infrastructure.
The Centre has also sanctioned extra funds worth Rs 2.31 crore on March 29 for implementation of projects in the district. Sources said the district was allotted about Rs 21 crore in two instalments for the fiscal 2004-05.
?Altogether 2,630 different rural development schemes including infrastructure development works like construction of roads, small bridges among others were undertaken during the last fiscal. For better performance, the district was awarded an extra allotment of Rs 2.31 crore to be invested in different rural development schemes,? said deputy commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal.
Burnwal said the district has also been awarded Rs 32.29 lakh for implementation of Indira Awas Yojana. Over Rs 10 crore have been allotted to the district for implementation of rural housing project, which includes upgradation of the already existing Indira Awas.
Sources said in other Centre and state-sponsored schemes like Pradhanmantri Gramoday Awas Yojana (PGAY), PGAY upgradation, Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana, water-harvesting projects, old-age pension the district has registered either 100 per cent or over 90 per cent achievement.
District rural development agency has also registered good achievement in district-level schemes sponsored by the state government. For implementation of water-harvesting projects, the district administration had roped in different non-government organisations.
