Taxi aggregator Ola is in for some competition in Ranchi with the launch of TYGR, an app-based transportation platform that also promises to offer, in the near future, a host of other citizen services like an ambulance on call and home delivery of groceries and meals.
"As of now, we are launching this omni-transport app with a fleet of over 100 vehicles which will be expanded in the days to come," TYGR founder and CEO Aditya Poddar said on Wednesday, adding that as many 15 pink autos run by women had also been signed up.
"The fleet of pink autos is to facilitate safe travel for women," he said.
The Android-based TYGR app will soon be offered on the iOS platform as well.
Poddar explained that TYGR came with multiple b2C (business to customer) and B2B (business to business) functions like providing vehicles for passengers, courier services, logistics support for restaurants, retailers and grocers, and also an on-demand ambulance service.
"As of now, we are only providing passenger services under the B2 category," Poddar clarified.
The app was first launched in Calcutta, followed by Mumbai and Indore. By the end of the month it would be launched in Bangalore and Raipur too.
"Our business model is not that of an aggregator, rather we are a de-aggregator," Poddar told The Telegraph. Unlike the typical cab aggregators - Poddar did not name any - TYGR would work alongside existing transport options.
"We are in favour of keeping the local transport eco-system thriving. We will just receive a subscription and not any commission from enrolled vehicle operators," he explained, adding, "we are simply appi-fying the local transport system by adding a digital edge to it."
Local TYGR franchisee Sanjiv Kumar Singh said fares for each kind of vehicle had been finalised. "The base fare is Rs 30 for a micro cab, Rs 35 for mini, Rs 45 for sedan and Rs 60 for an SUV with respective per kilometre rates fixed at Rs 5, Rs 8, Rs 10 and Rs 12," he said. The base fare autos was Rs 35.
"While taxis will be made available round-the-clock, pink autos will be operated till 8pm," he added.
