Dhanbad, June 8: Last week’s clashes between seniors and juniors at BIT, Sindri, have compelled the authorities to mull a plan to limit the number of students at its hostels in the next session beginning from September-October.
A final decision will be taken at a meeting of the heads of the department on June 12-13. “Every year, we provide accommodation to all 680 students seeking admission to the BTech course. But this session, we are planning to bring down the number by at least 150,” BIT, Sindri, director S.K. Singh said.
At present, there are 3,000 students at 25 hostels, much more than their sanctioned capacity of accommodating 2,000 students, thus leading to overcrowding.
The institute has sent letters to the parents of nine students showcaused for their involvement in last week’s clash. Showcause notices have also been served on 25 more students.
