Sept. 30: More investments from the house of Tatas are in the offing in the state.

The Taj Group of Hotels of the Tatas today assured chief minister Arjun Munda that it will set up a five-star hotel in Ranchi.

Tata Power, the electricity producing entity of Tata Sons, will sign an MoU worth Rs 15,000 crore with the state government on October 4. The company intends to set up a 3000 MW thermal power plant in the state.

The company is exploring two sites at Chandil and Latehar for the purpose and also preparing a preliminary project report for the power plant at Chandil.

The draft proposal for the MoU has also been prepared.

The project report for the proposed investment is being prepared by Tata Consulting Engineers ? a Tata Sons owned consultancy.

The proposed power plant will be a greenfield project. The company currently generates 427 MW of power in a power plant located in Jamshedpur.

Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata, along with group company managing directors B. Muthuraman (Tata Steel), Ravi Kant (Tata Motors), Adi Engineer (Tata Power), director of Tata Sons Shyamal Gupta, senior officials of Tata Consultancy Services and few other top group officials, had a meeting with Munda in Mumbai this afternoon.

?The Tatas have confirmed that they would set up a five-star hotel in Ranchi for which a team from India Hotels will visit the state capital next week,? Munda said.

The Tatas would also set up a hotel in Jamshedpur. ?But that will not be a five-star property,? the chief minister said.

Investments in the two projects will amount to around Rs 200 crore.

The hotel and power ventures follow Tata Steel?s investment plans. The steel major has already signed four MoUs with the government, one among them being for a new steel plant.

Munda said he spelled out the government?s efforts to industrialise the state.

?I told the Tata officials that the government was working overtime to ensure that the investors who have signed MoUs do not face any hurdles in establishing their units in the state,? he said.

The chief minister claimed that the Tatas appreciated the efforts of the government.

?Ratan Tata was of the view that our government was forward looking and assured us all possible assistance in industrialising the state,? Munda said.
