Srinagar, Nov. 25: Two policemen have been removed from their posts after a leaked police interrogation video of a businessman allegedly showed them abusing politicians of the ruling alliance.
The Omar Abdullah government has attached Basant Rath, the SSP vigilance, and Mubashir Lattifi, the Kulgam police chief, to the director-general of police’s office.
The decision came after a video was uploaded on YouTube of the duo questioning Nagar Singh alias Nago at an unspecified time.
Nago was arrested in November 2009 in connection with the murder of Amandeep Singh, the son of former National Conference legislator Depinder Kour. Amandeep was shot allegedly by Jitendra Singh, Nago’s son.
Rath and Lattifi were holding the posts of SSP Jammu and SP Jammu South when they had questioned Nago. They were subsequently moved to their current posts.
B.R. Sharma, the principal secretary, home, said action was initiated against the officers following an inquiry by DGP Kuldeep Khoda.
Police sources said the video showed the officers allegedly badmouthing politicians, including Farooq Abdullah’s political secretary Mohammad Aslam Goni.
