Bhubaneswar, Jan. 22: The Orissa government today announced financial assistance to the tune of Rs 2 lakh for reconstruction of schools, hostels and hospitals damaged in the recent riots in Khandhamal.
While okaying a proposal to this effect, chief minister Naveen Patnaik ordered for revision of financial assistance (of Rs 40,000) to those whose homes have been completely damaged during the riots to Rs 50,000 each. The home assistance would be released from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, official sources here confirmed.
Affected families, living below the poverty line (BPL) would be entitled to financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to be released under the Indira Awas Yojana, while the rest of Rs 25,000 will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Besides, those families whose homes have been partially damaged, will be entitled to a financial package of Rs 20,000 each for the repairs.
Besides, relief for food would be provided to the riot-affected families for next three months till they are rehabilitated permanently.
Meanwhile, the state government has posted a senior officer, in the rank of additional district magistrate, in the district to oversee relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.
Officers belonging to the Orissa Administrative Service have also been appointed as tehsildars and additional tehsildars to sort out the land-related issues.
