Mizoram MLAs take pay cut

Decision came two days after all govt employees decided to forego 5 to 10 per cent of their basic pay for the 8 months

Mizoram’s legislators on Thursday decided to contribute 30 per cent of their basic pay to the state exchequer from May till December to aid the Covid-19 battle.

The decision came two days after all government employees decided to forego 5 to 10 per cent of their basic pay for the eight months.

An official said a meeting of representatives of three legislature parties unanimously agreed to take a 30 per cent cut in basic pay for all the 40 legislators every month from May to December.

Chief minister Zoramthanga will contribute an additional Rs 20,000 per month while 40 MLAs will also donate Rs 50 lakh each from their local area development fund.
