WAPCOS, previously known as Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited, is a central public sector enterprise wholly owned by the Centre and is under the administrative control of the ministry of Jal Shakti.

The CBI had launched searches on Gupta and his family members on Tuesday. The agency has registered a disproportionate assets case against Gupta, his wife Reema Singal, son Gaurav and daughter-in-law Komal.

Searches were conducted at multiple locations across Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Sonipat and Ghaziabad on the premises of the accused persons.

“During the searches conducted so far, cash worth Rs 38.38 crore, FDRs, keys of bank lockers and details of accounts in various banks have been recovered from the premises of the accused,” the central agency said in a statement.

A case was registered against the former CMD of WAPCOS, a government of India undertaking under the ministry of Jal Shakti, and his family members on the allegations that the accused during the tenure from April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2019, had possessed disproportionate assets way beyond his known sources of income, the statement said.
