BJP MP's cook held for theft

NEW DELHI: A 37-year-old cook, working for BJP MP Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar Singh at his official residence in Lutyens' Delhi, has been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 22 lakh from the parliamentarian. Rajkumar alias Raju, was arrested following a complaint by the MP's son Kunwar Sushant Singh on October 9, police said. The cook was suspected to be behind the theft after a CCTV footage was scanned. Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar Singh represents Moradabad in the Lok Sabha. PTI

Teen body found

SHAHJAHANPUR: The body of a 14-year-old Dalit girl who appeared to have been raped and then killed was found in a village here, police said on Wednesday. Empty alcohol pouches were found near the body of the Class VIII student, who had gone missing on Tuesday evening from her home in Ahmadnagar. The body has been sent for post-mortem. PTI

Milk production

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh has achieved third position in milk production in the country, state animal husbandry minister Antar Singh Arya has said. "Due to sustained efforts, the state has achieved third position in milk production in the country. It was at sixth or seventh place 10 to 12 years back and last year it was at the fourth place," Arya said at an event on Tuesday. PTI

J&K dengue

JAMMU: As many as 88 people have tested positive for dengue during the past 11 days here, taking the total number of such patients in the state since July to 336, officials said. The officials said 2,023 tests were conducted till Tuesday and so far 336 people had tested positive, while 268 reports are awaited. PTI

Bus collision kills 2

SAMBHAL: Two Uttar Pradesh roadways buses collided on the Agra-Moradabad highway on Wednesday, killing two persons and injuring 17, an official said. PTI

Elephant dead

COIMBATORE: A 30-year old-elephant got electrocuted while trying to pull down a betel nut tree, which had come in contact with a live wire near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore, police said on Wednesday. PTI

Car crash kills 7 in Punjab

• MANSA: Seven people were killed and as many injured when an SUV collided with a truck near Bhikhi town in Punjab's Mansa district on Wednesday, police said. The occupants of the SUV were going to a shrine in Rajasthan. The vehicle collided head on with the truck when the driver of the SUV was trying to overtake another vehicle, police said. PTI

• MUMBAI: Bombay High Court has posted for hearing on Friday two PILs filed against an ongoing indefinite strike of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation staff. The petitions were filed on Wednesday highlighting the problems being faced by people because of the strike. PTI

Drone search for Indian girl

• HOUSTON: Police in Richardson, Texas, are using drones in the search of a missing three-year-old Indian girl, Sherin Mathews, who mysteriously disappeared 11 days ago after her foster father left her in an alley at 3am for not drinking her milk. Child Protective Services took custody of the couple's biological daughter, age 4, shortly after their father Wesley Mathews was arrested. Wesley has since been bailed out and ordered to wear an ankle monitor as the investigation continues. PTI

Impostor arrested

• GURGAON: A 37-year-old man has been arrested for duping a Gurgaon-based company of Rs 3 crore after posing as a senior official of the state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), police have said. Shyam Mitra, who hails from Bengal, was arrested from his home here. Mitra allegedly fled with Rs 3 crore paid for a consignment to be delivered in Nepal. PTI

Pak man sent back

• JAMMU: A 22-year-old Pakistani man who was arrested by the BSF along the International Border here has been repatriated after it was found that he had inadvertently crossed the border, a senior official said on Wednesday. Ali Raja, a tailor from Pasroor village of Sialkot, was arrested on Tuesday. PTI

Road crash

• TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: Seven persons were killed when their car hit a roadside tree near Thozhuthur in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli on Wednesday. A woman was injured in the incident. PTI
