Mumbai, April 1: TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who shot into the spotlight as Anandi in the TRP topper Balika Vadhu, was found hanging today at the Andheri apartment she shared with her boyfriend.
Police say the death followed a tiff that Pratyusha, 24, had with actor-producer Rahul Raj Singh over their marriage plans.
Pratyusha, a Jamshedpur native who was an alumna of Calcutta's St. Xavier's College, was rushed to hospital but declared dead on arrival, Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said.
Although the police initially suspected suicide, they later said foul play could not be ruled out. "No suicide note has been found. There are some unusual injury marks on the body. We are waiting for her parents to come before conducting the post-mortem," said a police source.
The police are looking for Rahul, 34, the son of former Rajasthan Congress MP and Hindi poet Prabha Thakur. "Nobody knows where Rahul is. His phone is switched off. We are looking for him," said the police source.
Pratyusha had placed an order for her wedding lehenga with designer Rohit Verma recently, the source said. "Knowing Rahul had got engaged to someone else seems to have been the last straw. She had a massive row with Rahul," said the police source.
