Churning the Arabian Sea, Cyclone Biparjoy on Wednesday was set to re-curve towards Gujarat's Kutch area and adjoining south Pakistan, slightly weakening in the process but still threatening to swamp the region with storm surges, strong winds and heavy rains.

Since its formation on June 6 in the southeast Arabian Sea, Biparjoy had maintained a northward track, gathering strength and becoming an extremely severe cyclonic storm on June 11, packing wind speed of more than 160 kmph, and then losing intensity a day later.

Arrested Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji has undergone coronary angiogram and has been advised bypass surgery at the "earliest", the hospital treating him said on Wednesday.

The Electricity Minister was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case earlier in the day.

Violence rocked parts of West Bengal over the filing of nominations for the July 8 panchayat poll as activists of the ruling TMC and opposition parties clashed prompting the police to use force to disperse the mob.

The violence over filing of nominations continued unabated for the fifth consecutive day in parts of South 24 Parganas and Bankura districts.

At least nine people were killed and 10 injured when suspected miscreants attacked a village in the Khamenlok area of ethnic strife-hit Manipur, officials said on Wednesday.

The armed miscreants surrounded the Kuki village of Khamenlok area bordering Imphal East district and Kangpoki district and launched the attack at around 1 am, officials said.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea seeking to prevent a ‘mahapanchayat’ called by Hindu outfits in Uttarakhand's Purola against what they termed as incidents of "love jihad," while prohibitory orders were imposed in the town by the local administration.

The 'mahapanchayat' is slated to take place in Purola town on Thursday though the administration has not given permission to it.

Wholesale price-based inflation rate fell to a 3-year low of (-) 3.48 per cent in May on easing prices of food, fuel and manufactured items, strengthening the case for continuing with the pause in rate hike in the coming months of the current fiscal.

This is the second straight month when WPI has been in the negative zone mainly on account of a higher base and falling prices of fuel and manufactured goods. Food prices also eased during May.

A total of 105 universities across the country including 19 central universities are going to start the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) from the upcoming academic session, according to the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The Central universities opting for the four-year UG courses are -- Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, Visva Bharti University, Assam University, Tezpur University Central University of Jammu, Sikkim University, National Sanskrit University and Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

Capital markets regulator Sebi sent notices last week to four entities asking them to pay Rs 4.56 crore within 15 days in Fortis Healthcare's case of fund diversion and misrepresentations to conceal the fraud.

In addition, the regulator warned of attachment of assets and accounts if they fail to make the payment within the stipulated time.

A 27-year-old woman from Hyderabad, who was studying a master of science course in the United Kingdom, was allegedly stabbed to death at her accommodation in London, the UK Metropolitan Police said.

The Met police said two men have been arrested in connection with the murder that took place at a residential property in Neeld Crescent, Wembley in London on Tuesday.
