Vrushika & her friend

Ek ladka aur ek ladki dost bhi ho sakte hain — Vrushika Mehta on “friend” Shantanu, fandom and food

TT Bureau Published 25.11.16, 12:00 AM

Teen heart-throb Vrushika Mehta is like any other 22-year-old. The actress — who shot into the spotlight as Sharon on Dil Dostii Dance, co-starring Calcutta sensation Shantanu Maheshwari — loves to paint when she’s depressed, can survive on vada pav, jots down make-up tips from Instagram and is often clueless when she has to dress up for a special occasion. What do we like the most about her? Her sizzling chemistry with our very own Shantanu. Their ship name? VruShan! t2 caught up with Vrushika when she was in Calcutta for a dandiya event.

What was your experience of Durga Puja in Calcutta? Did Shantanu tell you which pandals to visit?
(Smiles) Actually, we didn’t meet before I came to Calcutta, so he couldn’t tell me much. However, it was such a beautiful experience. While the plane landed, I could see the whole city lit up. All the pandals were looking like palaces. I couldn’t go to any pandal due to lack of time. My fans on Instagram and Twitter were telling me to try the phuchka in Calcutta. My family wanted me to get them rosogollas, but I didn’t get time to pick up some. Next time, I want to take two days off and enjoy.

You have a lot of crazy fans in Calcutta. How was it meeting them?
It was a beautiful experience to meet the people who have interacted with me on social media (smiles). Some of the admins of my fan clubs had come over. Everyone was so energetic and they were in complete masti mood at the dandiya event. It was raining, yet so many people came! I am a Hrithik Roshan fan, but I never do such things! In Calcutta, the craziness is on a different level. They follow everything I do. I get very little time to spend with them so I wanted to live it up.

People love your chemistry with Shantanu…
He’s a brilliant actor. I have learnt a lot from him. Be it an emotional or a romantic scene, whatever you give him, he will do his best. People say when we come together, we set the screen on fire! (Smiles) We don’t have to put an effort. We are friends and we support each other a lot.

But weren’t you two offered Nach Baliye (a dance reality show where real-life celebrity couples take part)?
See, I don’t want to say much on it. All I can say is we are not a couple. If we were a couple, we could have done the show together. Ek ladka aur ek ladki dost bhi ho sakte hain! (Smiles)

What are the things that we don’t know about Shantanu?
His one-liners are very funny. It doesn’t look like... but he can do a lot of masti. He is very protective of his hair! Everybody wants to know the name of his shampoo but he never discloses it! (Smiles)

How did your breakthrough show Dil Dostii Dance happen?
I was in Class XII (Canossa High School, Mumbai). Auditions were going on for Sharon’s character, so I went for it and it just happened. There’s nobody in my family who thought I could do anything! That’s why they were so surprised to see me as an actor. They have no clue what happens in the entertainment industry. It also gets very difficult to make them understand sometimes. I was never a person who could sit in front of the computer and work. I wanted to do something in showbiz.

What’s next?
I want to do films. I have never planned anything, so even now I will go with the flow. These days there are only saas-bahu shows on TV and I am not much into those shows. Since there are not many options left, I might as well do one. I would love to do a reality show like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa someday. We all are supporting Shantanu (who is participating in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9) and we are sure he will win it.
