Have you been forwarded a video on YouTube, hated it from second zero and yet have been watching and re-watching it and sharing it with family and friends?

Eye to Eye, a music video by Pakistani singer Taher Shah, is so addictively bad that it has become an online sensation and a talking point on social networking sites.

Running into 4:58 minutes, Eye to Eye is an amateurishly shot video focusing solely on Taher, whose Facebook page introduces him as “model, singer, director, producer, etcetera”. Dressed in white, the long-haired Taher is the hero of Eye to Eye, lip-syncing to the inane lyrics in the song that maintains the same tune, tenor and visuals throughout.

Taher stares into the camera, breaks into an awkward little jig, flicks his waist-length hair from time to time and comes up with a video that’s so laughable that people all over the globe are making it a point to google and watch it at least once.

“A friend shared the link on Facebook and I have been hooked. It’s unlike anything I have ever seen … it’s so bad that it’s actually good!” laughs software professional Shantanu Chatterjee.

Eye to Eye has garnered in excess of two million hits — and counting — ever since the video went on air last week. The YouTube clip has got more ‘dislikes’ than ‘likes’ in the ratio of 3:1, which shows that people may not be liking it, but are watching it enough to increase its viewership!

So what is it about Eye to Eye that’s made it such a sensation? The lyrics, most of which make no sense at all. Sample: Eye to eye/ Eye to eye/ Essentials and sensual eyes/ Eye to eye makes epic era love/ Substantial love is heaven for precise eyes/ Spectacular eyes. The killer line? Without you i am like a butterfly… without fly!

A Twitter talking point, a number of memes dedicated to Eye to Eye have also surfaced . Taher has even come up with an Urdu version, that is on it way to going viral. Coming up: a Hindi version. Gulp!
