Anjan Dutt Announces His Second Bomkesh Bakshi While Celebrating The Success Of Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona. KUSHALI NAG WHAT EXPECTATIONS DO YOU HAVE FROM ABAR BOMKESH? TELL T2@ABP.IN Published 17.08.11, 12:00 AM

Anjan Dutt is ready to embark on his second Bomkesh adventure a year after the success of Bomkesh Bakshi (based on the story Adim Ripu). This time he has picked Sharadindu Bandopadhyay’s Chitrachor. Titled Abar Bomkesh, the film will be produced by DC Media.

On Sunday evening, Dutt announced the film along with the cast and crew at The Park. The two key men conspicuous by their absence were Bomkesh and his friend Ajit — Abir Chatterjee was busy holidaying in the hills and Saswata Chatterjee was away shooting in Hyderabad. Ushasie will play Bomkesh’s wife Satyabati.

The other key players were there — Koushik Sen (bank manager Amaresh Raha), Debranjan Nag (Falguni Pal), Sudipa Basu (Malati), Chandan Sen (Umanath, the magistrate), Kunal Padhy (Purandhar Pandey, the cop), Arindol Bagchi (photographer Nakulesh) and Pijush Ganguly (Professor Som). Swastika Mukherjee plays Rajani, a young widow in the film.

“I have taken the rights of six Bomkesh films including Chiriakhana, which (Satyajit) Ray had made with Uttam Kumar. I chose Chitrachor because the story requires Bomkesh to go to the hills to recuperate. Though the original story is based in Jharkhand, I couldn’t have shot there. We will shoot the film in the foothills of north Bengal, in places like Lava, Samsing, Gorumara and various tea estates. Besides, I love the mountains,” smiled Dutt.

In Abar Bomkesh, unlike in Bomkesh Bakshi, there will be very little of Calcutta. “It’s very difficult to recreate the Calcutta of the Sixties, something I realised while doing the first Bomkesh. A lot has changed, the roads, buildings, everything,” said the maker.

Besides, Chitrachor has a very “interesting story”, elaborated Dutt. “It’s an adult story about man-woman relationships spiked with a crime thriller. In fact it’s not just a murder mystery. It’s got an interesting mix with a resonance among Ajit, Bomkesh and his wife Satyabati.”

Neel Dutt will score the music. “There’s one Tagore song in the film,” said Anjan’s son.

Abar Bomkesh hits the floors in October. “The budget is about Rs 1.5 crore and we will release the film in February-March 2012,” said producer Rana Sarkar.

The director-producer duo are riding high on Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona, which has completed a 50-day run at the box office.

“None of my films has run for 50 days. It feels especially great because I wasn’t convinced that a film with so many old men — Lew (Hilt), (Kabir) Suman, Amyt (Datta) and myself — could run in the theatres. But my producer was convinced and it was his idea that we do a film on the subject,” Dutt laughed.
