What started as an effort to revive handloom saris in Bengal with emphasis on novel designs, colours and quality in 1974 has become the mark of the discerning woman of taste 40 years later.
From the trademark Ananda tangail to the exclusive Ananda silk, Ananda, with its tastefully decorated shop off Park Street and dedication to quality and design, has been a story of growth and exclusivity.
It started with weavers in Phulia and Dhaniakhali recreating old styles in new fabrics. Its revolution continued with its foray into prints on all types of fabrics sourced from master weavers from all over India. Over four decades, Ananda has become a treasure trove of cotton, silks, Kanjeevarams, Benarasis, chiffons and crepe-de-Chines — all crafted by its weavers and designers, and patronised by the likes of Indira Gandhi, Nargis, Hema Malini and Rakhee.
The boutique will celebrate 40 years of being “one-of-a-kind” with a fashion show where it will showcase its designer collection of woven and printed saris.
