If your eyebrows are thinning, they may be saying something to you about your health. They can indicate a number of things:
• Hypothyroidism: Thinning of brows can mean hypothyroidism, caused by an underactive thyroid gland. This condition adversely affects hair growth on scalp and other parts of the body. Treatment for hypothyroidism can lead to regrowth of hair.
• General nutrient deficiency: Eyebrows can grow thinner because of the same lack of nutrients that makes the hair on the head grow thinner. You need to have a balanced diet. In addition, you may need supplements of iron and zinc; Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D.
• Atopic dermatitis: Also known as atopic eczema, this condition causes itching, swollen skin. In some cases, this may lead to thinning eyebrows.
• Alopecia Areata: Also known as spot baldness, it is an autoimmune disease which leads to hair loss in spots. In rare cases, it affects the eyebrow.
Remember, as you age, your hair naturally gets thinner.
Too much tweezing can be harmful, too. It can lead to ingrown hair or damage hair follicles.
Finally, if you see your eyebrow thinning significantly, do consult a doctor.
