New Town has slowly and steadily emerged as a buzzing grub hub. The Biswa Bangla Sarani has a line of food stops where you can grab a quick bite or indulge in a hearty meal. t2 went on a trail to check out some of the popular restaurants along the stretch. 

KOSHE KOSHA

If a nice view of the road and some Bengali food is your ideal way to have a meal, then Koshe Kosha at AS/234/2-04 Kaikhali, Chinar Park, is your place. The 28-seater restaurant has indoor as well as outdoor seating space. What do people love from their menu? Pulao @ Rs 130 and Kosha Mangsho @ Rs 265.

MOMO I AM

The popular momo chain — Momo I Am — is present here with a 82--seater outlet. Located on the ground floor of Tarun Alo Apartment, Chinar Park, this cosy outlet is nicely decorated with wall graffiti, posters and stickers, which make the interiors colourful and full of life. Apart from the momos, t2 dug into the Chicken Thai Bowl @ Rs 250 which is rice with red chicken curry and two prawn chips along with some hot broth and a red chilli fish sauce. Don’t miss the baos on the menu!

THE GASTRO HUB

The Gastro Hub housed at T47, Tapavan Apartments, is ideal for quiet dinners. The 35-seater restaurant serves both Continental and Chinese food. The bestselling item on their menu? The Chicken Steak @ Rs 250, which is served with mashed potatoes, boiled vegetables and gravy.

AMINIA RESTAURANT

Lovers of this classic Mughlai chain can have their fill at the fourth outlet of Aminia Restaurant at Rajarhat Main Road (opposite Karnataka Bank). The sprawling 430-seater restaurant is well lit and covers an area of 8,000sq ft. For a quick bite, a live kitchen dishes out rolls and kebabs, while a mocktail stall offers sip options. t2 tried the succulent Chicken Reshmi Kebab that came with the tangy green chutney @ Rs 250 

BANGALEE ANA

It would be a shame if one did not use their hands to eat their food here. Bangalee Ana, an authentic Bengali cuisine restaurant, is located at the first floor of Shibam Apartments at Chinar Park. The walls of the restaurant are hand-painted and the entrance has black-and-white posters of old Bengali movies. The bestselling item on their menu is the Bengali Thali @ Rs 699 that comes with pulao, rice, begun bhaja, shukto, jhinge aloo posto, sona moong dal, pabda shorshe, mutton kosha, chutney, raj bhog and nolen gur-er ice cream.

ARSALAN RESTAURANT & CATERER

Ask a Calcuttan his fave biryani places, and Arsalan would most likely be among the top five! Arsalan Restaurant & Caterer has reached Chinar Park as well, with their eighth outlet, opposite Spencer’s in Sukanta Pally, New Town. One of the busiest restaurants in the area, it also has a live-cooking stall. t2 tried the all-time favourite Mutton Biryani @ Rs 171 and paired it with some yummy Mutton Chaap @ Rs 224.

MEHAK-E-PUNJAB

One of the three Mehak-E-Punjab outlets in the city is located on the ground floor of  Ecosuite Business Park, New Town. This casual-dining restaurant specialises in Indian and Chinese cuisine. This place is a treat for beer-lovers because the restaurant comes with its very own microbrewery. The Punjabi Chicken and Cheese Kebab @ Rs 500 is among the pop picks here.

6 BALLYGUNGE PLACE & THE WALL

The popular Bengali restaurant 6 Ballygunge Place is now in Chinar Park too, along with the Oriental dine den The Wall on the same floor — at Ecosuite Business Park. Covering an area of 6,000sq ft, the 84-seater 6BP has the same menu as in their flagship outlet in Ballygunge. The Wall is a 52-seater with primarily Chinese and Thai dishes on the menu. We loved the old-Calcutta bonedi bari feel at 6BP and the red-and-mahogany colour scheme at The Wall. t2 tried Daab Chingri @ Rs 525 at 6BP and Whole Bhetki in Hot Garlic Sauce @ Rs 650 at The Wall.

Lazeez Express (786 Rajarhat Main Road, Atghora): This 20-seater restaurant serves quality Mughlai fare. The bestselling dishes on their menu are Mutton Biryani, Chicken Cheese Kebab and Chicken Hariyali Kebab.

Tea Tales (Ambika Apartment, Chinar Park crossing): This cafe serves fast food and snacks like burgers and sandwiches along with different kinds of tea such as Masala Tea, Iced Tea and Rose Tea.

Asia In Box (Pinacle View, Near City Centre New Town): This Asian cuisine eatery has dishes like baos, dim sums, Thai Sticky Wings and Chicken Satay.
