I am an 18-year-old girl in a long-distance relationship with a 21-year-old guy for the last eight months. He is an engineering student. I don’t know why, but at times, especially during his exams, he fights with me and talks about breaking up. And every time, he boasts how much his career is better than mine since I study media sciences. My friends tell me that we are not going to last. I can’t figure out what he wants from me. Please help!

Neither can I. But tell him you will become like Rajdeep Sardesai or Barkha Dutt and all he can possibly become is Arvind
Kejriwal. QED. My advice would be get rid of him. Engineers by and large are very boring. Very. Why would you want a man in your life whose prime occupation is a slide ruler?
I had a crush on my bestie. To my surprise, one day he proposed. I happily accepted. It has been a year that we have been in a relationship. Now I realise that I don’t love him any more but he loves me very much. I want to break up but fear that if I do, he might go into depression and even slash his wrist and all... What should I do? I don’t want him to get hurt.

Slash his wrist? All the more reason you should dump him. These blokes never give up on their wrists and who knows one day he might object to the way his laundry is done and kill himself? The fact that you are even thinking of dumping him is proof enough that you don’t love the blighter; so run as quickly as you can. Away from him that is.
I have a kind and caring mother-in-law but my father-in-law keeps on insulting me. I have talked to my husband about this, but he supports his father and never protests even when he sees him treating me badly. I don’t like it and fear something will happen that will make things worse. What should I do? Please help.

Just ignore him. He will die before you do, so live in that hope. Don’t try and kill him. It’s not worth it. Our prisons are pretty grim. Just bear all this stoically and things will improve. As simple as that.
