A new year is already upon us, bringing forth with it numerous possibilities of gorgeous festivities. In case you are on the hunt for beautiful new ensembles, look no further than Hyderabad-based designer Shriya Bhupal’s 2021 bridal-festive collection, The Wild Iris from her label Shriya Som.

The eclectic collection is punctuated by shades of ivory, arctic blues, tonal reds and midnight hues. Defined as a “rendezvous between craftsmanship and culture”, it features the designer’s signature pieces revamped into new avatars. Shriya’s style fuses “uniquely constructed luxury and bridal wear with elegant, muted tones, exhibiting a harmonious union of traditional and contemporary couture culture”. The Wild Iris is no different. This collection, in particular, draws inspiration from the iris flower, which denotes new beginnings and is found in a variety of colours that are reflected in this collection. Excerpts from a t2 chat with the designer:

The styles incorporated in these pieces seem to be Indo-western. Tell us about designing the collection…

The silhouettes in ‘The Wild Iris’ are a play on classic Shriya Som styles. The new collection for the season is a rendezvous between craftsmanship and culture. It reflects the idea of new beginnings in the way the signature pieces are reinvented in a fresh avatar. The collection is a wardrobe mix for the independent and modern woman, who values statement pieces mixed with quintessential Indian techniques.

How do you think the collection will cater to the demands of the modern Indian bride?

The modern Indian bride wants a variety of statement pieces and these are reflected in our collection with luxurious new textures, intricate embroideries and nuanced details, making silhouettes come together to create an amalgamation of the traditional and contemporary couture culture.

What are some of the latest trends that you have incorporated in this new collection?

‘The Wild Iris’ collection features key pieces such as textured gowns, layered ruffle dresses with elegant fringe details, ostrich-feathered occasion wear and surface-embroidered bridal wear. The collection is a perfect blend of timeless couture, reflected through bold yet elegant evening wear.

There seems to be quite a few pieces featuring fringes and ruffles while keeping it chic and minimalist overall. Do you think these particular style elements will see a rise in their popularity?

Ruffles and fringes are classic Shriya Som styles that have been loved by our clients of all ages since the brand’s inception. We love utilising these elements in fresh new ways to create reinvented statement pieces.

Who would you say would enjoy this collection the best?

This collection will definitely cater to modern Indian women who have a strong sense of style and love statement and versatile wardrobe essentials.
