He is better known as Abhi from Astitva ? Ek Prem Kahani and she is a Shyam Benegal regular. Varun Vadola and Rajeshwari Sachdev, the well-known television stars, who recently got married have choc-a-bloc schedules for the coming months. Varun is busy playing the matured Abhi in Zee?s number one daily soap, Astitva, and Rajeshwari is making herself felt in Rihaee, a show based on real life incidents on Sony.
Although Varun has worked on several telefilms and teleserials, he maintains that he is extremely choosy about his projects and is awaiting his next film project Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh. Rajeshwari, who will be seen in Shyam Benegal?s next biopic, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose is excited about her role as Captain Laxmi Sehgal. Till then she says, ?I am enjoying working on Rihaee.?
Rajeshwari on Varun
We met for the first time on the sets of Antakshari, where I was the host and he, the celebrity guest. Then we just said ?hi? and ?bye?. But we met again and again ? at parties, shoots and other television events. During the special shoot of Khel Khel Mein, we spent a lot of time together and after that, we met off-and-on as friends. In fact, we got very close as friends and it was Varun, who popped the question.
I was very sceptical at first, and kept denying our feelings. We went through a phase of denial, when we tried not to speak to each other and met with friends for coffee or dinner. It is quite funny in retrospect that we tried to fight our feelings simply because we wanted to play safe and not hurt ourselves. I remember, we decided not to speak to each other for a good 10 days so that the two of us could take time out to sort out our feelings and issues. However, in two days, Varun called and asked me to marry him and I replied saying that he would have to speak to my father about it.
Imagine my shock when he was at my home the very next day asking my father if he could marry me. It all happened so fast that I am still reeling under it all. But once, we decided to get married, things moved very fast and now I am dealing with the whole ?being married? idea. I must admit, it feels great to come back home to a husband and marriage has definitely changed my attitude towards several things. I have become much more responsible and yes, I cook now, which is rather surprising, as I never cooked at home.
As professionals, the best thing is that we hail from the same field. Both of us understand the nuances of acting and media. Like all people in my life, I discuss my job with my husband and he, in turn, talks about his experiences and problems. It is a very comfortable relationship that we share and marriage has only served to make it stronger and more comfortable.
Varun on Rajeshwari
Both Rajeshwari and I were at that stage of life where we didn?t want to experiment or go through a ?trial-and-error? relationship. We wanted something more serious ? a relationship that would last a lifetime. Basically, we were prepared to settle down and commit ourselves. So, when I met Rajeshwari and realised that we were compatible, we decided to get married. Of course, as an actor I knew about her and had met her off-and-on over the years. But it was during the making of Khel Khel Mein ? a game show on Zee TV that we bonded and fell in love.
I am a very family-oriented person and so is she. It was very important to me that we are from the same background, with the same ideologies and views on life. Rajeshwari and I share the same ideas, thoughts, views and attitude to life and work, and that is what attracted me to her. Also, since we both respect and love our families so much ? it was very important that the person we choose to marry must understand and get along with our respective families. I don?t believe that marriages are between two individuals. It is, always, a union between two families.
Post-marriage I must say I am enjoying myself thoroughly. I entered into it with absolutely no expectations or ideas. I was almost like a blank slate. And till now the experience has been great. In fact, I think she must be having a more difficult time compared to me. She has always lived with her family and has never done household chores. But now she has to and it is, I?m sure, quite difficult to adjust. Even when it comes to cooking, she has never done that at her mother?s place. But now she makes it a point to keep breakfast ready for me if I have a late morning shoot. It is these small things that she does that endear her to me.
As actors, we cannot be compared. I am very proud of Rajeshwari?s achievements and think she is a brilliant actor. We do talk about work but she is more enthusiastic about it as compared to me. I love her schoolgirl enthusiasm about her daily work and shoots ? it is a wonderful thing!
