nThere are two things in particular that I find intolerable while on the road. The first is when people don’t look to check for traffic before crossing a street. We must keep in mind that it’s not always the drivers who are responsible when accidents happen. Quite a few times, it’s the person knocked down by a vehicle, who is as much to blame. They just dart across the road without checking for oncoming traffic and most of the times, it’s not possible for a driver going at a considerable speed, to stop instantaneously.

Second on my list of pet peeves is unnecessary honking, especially when the traffic signal is red. The cars can’t possibly move forward, yet people will press down on their horns ? it’s very annoying.

The above said however, I must admit that Calcutta’s traffic system is improving by the day. The leaps and bounds that the police is making was evident during the Pujas last year. While there were jams, by and large, things were organised.
