Here is what to look out for when you are purchasing a blow dryer, says Deepti Mohinder of Studio Meche, Calcutta.

Power! To help the hair dry faster, go for something with a higher wattage: 1800 or higher for thinner hair, or 3600 for thicker air. They may cost more, but drying time will be half. This means damage will be less.

Weight. Choose a light dryer, so that holding it is no trouble. The weight of a blow dryer matters. A light dryer makes your blowout easier. It’s easy to travel with too.

Heat setting options help. The dryer should have low, medium, and high heat options.

Ceramic and tourmaline: For smooth hair, get a blow dryer with ceramic and tourmaline technology. Ceramic technology distributes the heat more evenly. Tourmaline helps to smoothen hair as it seals the cuticle and retains moisture. It fights frizz while retaining the required moisture.

Attachments! The blow dryer should have a nozzle attachment. This concentrates the air flow so it directly smoothens the area of your focus. The nozzle should be pointed downwards to reduce flyaways. For curls, a diffuser attached to the blow dryer help spread out the air flow.
