Why am I feeling guilty of running away for a long weekend to a hill station? Mussoorie, named after a shrub called mansoor, is just too far away. Ranikhet, named after the 12th century Rani Padmini, would also require travel time. So with Nainital (Lake Naini, shaped like an eye hence the name) or Shimla. Haflong, Assam’s only hill station, for a weekend would be impractical for a Calcuttan. Hmmm… maybe then a trip to the hill town that gets its name from the monastery Dorje Ling (Darjeeling), meaning ‘land of the thunderbolts’. A long weekend beckons. Nah, the guilt.
