My ma’s living room is filled with dozens of family photographs. Only one poster though. A neatly framed black and white close-up (no, not a pic of a young Neil ’Brien, her spouse for 52 years) of her all time filmi hero Dev Anand. Tomorrow makes it one year since Dev Anand met the Director in the Sky. My ma still fondly remembers him as Raju in his first colour film Guide. Later, he co-produced the English version of the film with Nobel Laureate Pearl S Buck. His unforgettable performances in Baazi, Taxi Driver, Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Jewel Thief continue to enthrall us today, as they did a generation ago.
