The handloom sari is set for a chic makeover by Sayantan Sarkar this winter. Paired with trench coats and long jackets, the sari is also draped different, which gives it the feel of an Indo-Western fusion. The fashion designer is debuting his line of handloom saris and flowing lehnga skirts with crop tops at The India Story 2017, in association with t2.
The collection will also retail from Taj Khazana and Sayantan Sarkar Design Studio (42A Rashbehari Avenue). Actress Swastika Mukherjee slipped into four looks from the collection for t2.
An off-white, long jamdani jacket is teamed with olive khadi trousers and a woven sari. The structured look of the jacket and straight pants is softened by the sari drape.
Wear it to: Any morning function — an art exhibition or a gallery opening.
The structured red khadi shirt paired with a flowy off-white jamdani rose-motif lehnga makes for a feminine and playful look.
Wear it to: A friend’s Sangeet where you plan to let your hair down and dance the night away.
Who says you can’t wear a trench coat over a traditional sari? The teal jamdani sari gets an instant style makeover when paired with this wrapped zari-tissue trench coat with panels.
Wear it to: A winter wedding and watch heads turn.
A maroon sari worn over an off-white crop top and loose navy pants makes for a classy look. It’s formal and subtle.
Wear it to: An afternoon do on a day you’re in the mood to experiment.
I have been wearing Sayantan’s label for a decade because his ideas and style have always matched with mine. And it’s inspiring to see him grow and experiment with weaves and motifs every season. Handloom has become a major part of today’s fashion and this new winter festive collection is celebrating that. It’s shimmery yet classy and comfortable. I specially love the tissue trench coat

I have been working with traditional weaves for years and have always loved experimenting with weaves and motifs. Layering is the best way to stand out in the crowd and look super stylish, and since this is a winter line, we have done lots of layering. This line has a lot of separates like shrugs, tops, dhotis, skirts and saris that can be mixed and layered to create stylish ensembles... that’s my signature style
