Life isn’t just about suppressing our food intake, losing weight and counting calories ? there’s a lot more to it! Having a healthy eating plan can allow you to enjoy your food without worrying about the calories.
While caffeine is a natural stimulant, and helps overcome fatigue, we don’t need endless cups of caffeine. What we need to do is eat smart. Here are some tips and recipes that will allow you to do just that.
Three things that you can easily enjoy for breakfast without feeling guilty are eggs and toast, fruit and fibre or fruit with yoghurt. Grilled banana with yoghurt is delicious. Place a peeled banana in an oven-proof dish. Add some orange juice, sprinkle 1 tsp brown sugar and some cardamom powder. Grill for five minutes and serve with yoghurt.
For lunch, a tuna and coriander wrap is perfect. All you have to do is to finely chop 1 tomato, 1 onion, 1 stick celery, 1tbs fresh coriander, 1 tsp olive oil, salt and pepper to taste and some chilli flakes. Squeeze some lemon juice over this, and enjoy it with some pita bread or whole wheat bread.
For dinner, chicken, lamb or fish is fine as is seafood spaghetti. All you have to do is to heat 1 tsp of olive oil, fry some chopped onion and 1 clove garlic. Sprinkle oregano and fresh basil. Then stir in 200gm prawns, cook through and keep aside. Boil about 50-70gm pasta, drain and mix with sauce.
Dessert is a must for many of us, and what better than a fruit dessert! An apple and almond crumble is especially hard to beat!

Ingredients: (for filling) 1 tsp butter; 4 apples; 2tbs brown sugar; 1tsp ground cinnamon; 60gm raisins
(for the crumble) 115gm flour; 30gm whole almonds; 50gm butter; 50gm oats; 1 tbs sugar
Method: Cut apple into chunks. Mix with sugar, cinnamon and raisins. Cook in a non-stick pan till soft in 1tsp butter. Place flour and almonds in a blender and mix till well-powdered. Put in a bowl, add the diced butter and mix till the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Then add oats and sugar. Cover the fruit with the flour mixture, pressing down gently but evenly. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 200?C for 15-20 minutes or till done. Serve hot with ice cream!
