With 10 clothing labels and six accessory brands, the 2,500sq ft space has been done up in soothing colours. Antique furniture and handmade decor pieces enhance the ambience. Clothing shelves made from discarded iron bars give the store a quirky vibe while retaining its old-world charm.

What: Fanetta
Where: 102B, Ballygunge Place, next to Patha Bhavan
When: Open all days, 11am to 8.30pm
Pocket pinch: Price starts at Rs 150

Attached to the store is Mrs Wilson’s Cafe, a cute little sip-and-bite zone where the fare will change every week. The white and maroon walls have doodles on them and bright quilted handmade tablecloth adds colour to the 30-seater cafe. Don’t miss the balcony overlooking the street, with trees around... a perfect spot to spend a quiet evening with a cuppa and friends for company.

We stepped inside an old bungalow in Ballygunge and found ourselves in a pretty multi-label designer store-cum-cafe with its 24-year-old owner greeting us with a smile. Fanetta, which means “crown with laurels” in French, is the brainchild of Abhishruti Dutta, a fashion designer who sources clothes and accessories by young and budding designers from across the country.

There’s a special focus on apparel and accessories from the east and Northeast, which occupy substantial space on the racks. “I used to see a lot of pop-ups during my stay in Mumbai and had been wanting to collaborate with young designers. It’s finally happening,” said the young entrepreneur.
