I am 26. Please tell me how I can get a smoky, sultry look for my eyes though my eyes are not very big? How do I use my kajal, eyebrow liner and eyeshadow for this kind of look?

Celine, Calcutta

The key words for the smoky eyes look are dramatic, mysterious, and sexy. The colour palette for this look is traditionally the colours of smoke (grey, charcoal and black) but you can add the dark smoky effect to pretty much any colour of eyeshadow by blending a dark colour or black at the lash line. Shimmer shadows work best to give richness and depth. Apply concealer where necessary.

Powder is very important to set the base in place and keep any shine at bay. Brows should be shaped but not filled. There is enough going on around the eyes — adding dark-filled brows could end up looking too heavy. Start by applying your base shadow colour (the lightest one) on the whole lid, all the way up to the brow. Apply the next shade just over the lid, blending it away just above the crease of the socket. Shade the socket and upper and lower lash line using your darkest colour and blend so that there are no harsh edges. Then using a soft black eyeliner pencil, line the edge of the eye, top and bottom as close to the lash line as possible. It doesn’t have to be a perfect line, beca-use it’s going to get blended. The more liner you add at this stage, the darker and heavier the smoky effect will become. Finish with two coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

Tip : Lips should be kept pale and simple. A sheer nude lipstick or transparent gloss is enough to offset the dark dramatic eyes and keep the face in balance.
