Bridgette Jones Has The Most Effective Make-up Tricks Up Her Sleeve Published 08.05.11, 12:00 AM

I am a 23-year-old girl. I would like to know if waxing is a safe process to remove facial hair. Does it cause any harm to the skin? Also, on a recent trip to Thailand I learnt about shaving the eyebrows. Is it a good way to shape the brows? What other painless hair removal techniques can I try for facial hair? I would like you to know that hair removal creams do not suit me at all and give me breakouts no matter what brand I use.

Waxing the face is not a very good idea. Waxing can stretch and damage the skin on your face. You can wax a smaller area like your upper lip. Facial skin is delicate, and often certain delicate areas leads to rash. Waxing almost always results in pimples and ingrowths, and so it is best if you don’t wax your face at all. You could try bleaching it instead. If you have a lot of hair on the face, thread your eyebrows and upperlip and bleach the rest of your face. Consider going in for laser therapy to remove excess facial hair, but make sure you go to a reputed dermatologist.

Eyebrow shaving is not a good idea. The area near your brows is very delicate and as the skin is a lot thinner than many places on your face and body you can run the risk of getting cut. So don’t be fooled by these tiny razors in cute colours marketed to women — please don’t shave your brows. Instead of eyebrow shaving, options like threading or tweezing that removes the entire follicle from the root will leave your eyebrows shaped for weeks at a time. Shaving creates blunt edges which make the hair appear thicker and it is extremely temporary.
