The biggest losers in the battle of winter vs summer are the skin and the hair. So before the battle is already lost, here are some tips to put to good use.
1 Just as you don’t wear the same clothes in all the seasons, you must change your skin, body and hair products accordingly as well.Switch from your toners and gel cleansers suitable for summer to hydrating moisturisers.
2 People who have dry skin and tend to develop flaky patches, should use heavier moisturising products for both mornings and nights. Follow it up with a travel pack of the same product for frequent application.
3 Drink at least eight-10 glasses of water in order to hydrate from within. Fruits, vegetables, different kinds of juices and herbal seeds add to your water intake. Soups are perhaps the best thing that you can add to your list of winter foods that keep you hydrated.
4 Avoid using hot water for both skin and hair as it absorbs moisture. Use lukewarm water instead.
5 Enjoy the sunshine because it adds to the body’s vitality. However, don’t forget to wear sunglasses — UV-blocking or prescription-coated — in order to protect the delicate skin around your eyes.
6 The quickest way to get glowing skin and a healthy, dewy look is by using facial oil before sleeping. Cleanse your face before going to bed and apply a few drops of any facial oil that suits your skin with your fingertips in a circular motion. This can also be applied to your neck and decolletage. Facial oil does not just rejuvenate your skin, but most have a calming aroma that helps you sleep better.
7 The simplest kind of body scrub is sea salt mixed with coconut oil. Massage it on damp skin and then rinse it off in the shower to effectively remove dull and dead skin.
8 You can boost blood circulation with the help of a soft body brush in long, sweeping movements. Start from your feet and work upwards towards your heart. This does not only help in circulation but also helps with cellulite, toning the body and removing dead cells.
9 It’s best to opt for coconut and almond oil to remove make-up in this weather. It enters the finest of your pores and removes dust.
10 Use a good lavender or rose oil to get rid of flaky, white skin from your elbows and knees.
11 Intensive hair conditioning is a must to retain moisture balance and avoid frizzy, dry and split hair. After applying the conditioner, let it penetrate for five-10 minutes under a shower cap. Rinse very thoroughly to ensure there is no residue left.
12 To take care of your hands and feet. Rub oil on your cuticles. If you’re going for pedicures, opt for paraffin wax treatments.
13 Try to load up on as much Vitamin C as you can. It is an important antioxidant that helps keep wrinkles at bay and brightens your complexion. It is found in many fruits and vegetables, including apple, kiwi, strawberry, guava, lemon, cabbage, broccoli and tomato.
MUST-DO IN THIS SEASON
Cleansing, toning, moisturising and sun protection are all very important.
Use a sunblock with a minimum protection of SPF 15. BB Cream is a good substitute for heavy make-up as it has in-built SPF.
Invest in creams with hyaluronic acid as it helps in trapping moisture and rendering a natural glow to the skin.
Eat healthy to improve blood circulation, strengthen the immune system, naturally improve your skin, slow down the ageing process and, in turn, lift your mood.
Sip on a cup of cinnamon tea every day for a glowing complexion
