It’s a week that’s a little out of the ordinary as it comes bookended by a pair of fun Sunday mornings, thanks to Street of Joy, partnered by t2 in collaboration with The New Alipore Association. The first instalment, on February 18, turned almost the entire stretch of Nalini Ranjan Avenue in New Alipore into a chill zone for kids and grown-ups alike (and even a few pets!). There was an array of things to do — skating, cricket, pottery, doodling, Zumba, yoga, meditation and more. And the second chapter at the same place on February 25 promises to be even better, says the organiser, Heartfulness Institute.
Kids had a whale of a time all along the street — on scooters, bicycles, roller skates, skateboards and even a cricket pitch.
Vandana Kothari, a Class X student of Calcutta International School, was engrossed in filling up a mandala drawing.
Two-and-a-half-year-old Lavik scrawled to his heart’s content in the Chalk Zone. “It’s a great initiative by the organisers. I love the vibe on the street and I wish they have an encore,” said mum Shivani Agarwalla.
Little Abir took a shot at thumping a big green ball into orbit!
Riddhima Chandak (centre), a Class IV student of Sri Sri Academy, was spotted at the potter’s wheel.
Khanak, all of 14 months, was drawn to the colours around her.
Shilpi Dey went through some yoga basics with a trio of pretty-in-pink girls.
St. Xavier’s College BCom student Jayanti Bhatter (right) and her friend Kalpana Naik, both Heartfulness Institute members, doodled up an illustration that captured the spirit of the event.
Heartfulness Institute members (l-r) Akhilesh Kajaria, Amish Naik and Jatish Seth ensured the open-to-all event was a smooth affair. “We’ve made a note of a few possible improvements for next Sunday. We hope more people turn up and have a great time,” said Akhilesh.
