Members of YFLO were in for a special treat, as singer-songwriter Sonam Kalra sang and spoke about faith and its many manifestations at The Many Voices of Faith on June 27 at The Oberoi Grand.
Sonam shared several anecdotes and moments from her life and career, besides creating soulful music, accompanied by sarangi player Ahsan Ali. While the accounts of her own experiences in the advertising world as a woman, and the challenges she faced upon entering the world of music were nothing short of inspiring, her effort to blend in the different voices of faith to create a unified voice with song, music and the spoken word through her musical project, The Sufi Gospel Project, left the audience overwhelmed.

Sonam Kalra and sarangi player Ahsan Ali mesmerised the audience with their fusion of music from different cultures and traditions. “I hope the unifying voice of faith I try to spread using my Sufi Gospel Project reaches everyone,” said Sonam.
Some of the members had also set up stalls to sell products, the proceeds of which went to city-based charities.
“Not only did Sonam Kalra’s beautiful music touch my heart but her discourse on experiencing life to the fullest and listening to one’s inner voice, was deeply motivational,” said Soni Jain, joint treasurer, YFLO.
“In a life marked by grief and having her faith tested, the fact that she drew both Indian and western musical traditions together is commendable. Her voice is soul-stirring and it was an absolute pleasure to hear her sing,” said Anisha Juneja, an entrepreneur.
“Sonam Kalra created beauty, power and magic with her Sufi Gospel Project. It was a fantastic attempt to blend together voices of different faiths and create one powerful voice, making for a mesmerising evening,” said Isha Patodia, chairperson, YFLO.
