Calcutta, March 3: Hospitality major Oberoi Group has inked an MoU with Bangalore-based real estate company Subramanya Construction and Development Company (SCDCL) and the Maldives government to design, build and manage a luxury resort there.
The investment for the acquisition and development of the resort will be undertaken by SCDCL, Oberoi Group said in a statement.
P.R.S. Oberoi, executive chairman of the group, said, "We are extremely pleased to partner and assist SCDCL in design and management of the proposed luxury resort. We look forward to bring the Oberoi hospitality to Maldives."
The pact was signed in the presence of Moosa Zameer, the tourism minister of Maldives, the statement said.
"With a growing demand of luxury hospitality services in Maldives, it is imperative to bring in the best in the industry and our partnership with Oberoi Group will be a testament to this," Zameer said.
K.N. Balasubramanyam, chairman and managing director of SCDCL, said, "We look forward to working with Oberoi Group to create more such luxurious offerings globally and would like to say that this extraordinary project would make a major contribution to our long-term partnership."
Oberoi Group operates 30 luxury hotels in several countries, including Egypt, Indonesia, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, two luxury Nile cruisers and a motor vessel in the backwaters of Kerala under the Oberoi brand.
In Calcutta, the group operates the Oberoi Grand hotel. The group is also engaged in flight catering, airport restaurants, travel and tour services, car rentals, project management and corporate air charters.
Besides the Oberoi brand, the group also operates hotels under the Trident brand.
