Bangalore, June 13: Infosys will soon expand its Bhubaneswar centre and is likely to recruit more IT professionals in the current financial year.

The company will also strengthen its operations at the software development centres in Pune, Mangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mohali.

Infosys has set up its software development centre at the Export Promotion Industrial Park in Bhubaneswar. The company had acquired 25 acres of land to build the centre in two phases.

In the first phase, the company has built 150,000 square feet of office space, which is capable of housing more than 1,200 professionals in two software blocks. The company has also planned for a facilities block and a food court.

Infosys plans to focus on exploring opportunities for developing new products at these centres. It also plans to integrate the business process outsourcing (BPO) operations with IT support.

Infosys chief executive officer and managing director Nandan Nilekani said, “Our focus will be to strengthen the existing software development centres in the country. There is a huge potential. In the east, we have a development centre at Bhubaneswar and it will get the necessary thrust like all other development centres.”

While Nilekani did not divulge any details about the expansion plans, he said, “The nine operations of the company — three in Karnataka and one each in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab — will be given a major thrust during this financial year.”
