Mumbai, May 3: GirnarSoft, the parent of auto classifieds portal CarDekho.com, today announced that it has acquired virtual reality start-up Volob Technologies in an all-cash deal.
Founded in 2010 by Tarun Kumar and Shweta Jain, Volob Technologies provides 3D visualisation solutions to various industries, primarily automotive. The start-up has serviced brands such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Godrej, Greenply and Somany Ceramics.
The deal size, however, was not disclosed. This is the company's third acquisition in this year and eighth in the last two years. The company, which also owns Gaadi.com and Zigwheels.com, has bought another start-up Connecto.
Last month, it had acquired roadside assistance company Help On Wheels to boost its roadside assistance vertical. Some of its other deals include an investment in Advanced Structures India and BuyingIQ. The company has also incubated and invested in CollegeDekho.com.
Volob Technologies' acquisition is expected to augment CarDekho.com's 3D visualisation capabilities through technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality.
"Volob has proven expertise in virtual content. The acquisition is aimed at amplifying the visual experience of car buyers in both real and virtual settings," CarDekho.com co-founder & CEO Amit Jain said.<>
The acquisition comes nearly two months after the receipt of an undisclosed investment from Google Capital with participation from existing investor Hillhouse Capital.
These investments came after a $50-million funding round led by Hillhouse Capital, with participation from Sequoia Capital and Tybourne Capital. GirnarSoft had said that the funding will be used to further bolster technology, R&D and expansion within and outside of India.
