New Delhi, Sept. 6: Direct tax collections shot up 13.91 per cent to Rs 1,00,112 crore in the first five months of 2010-11 from Rs 87,888 crore in the corresponding period last year, the finance ministry said today. Corporate tax collections grew 17.05 per cent to Rs 57,750 crore from Rs 49,339 crore during the five-month period a year ago.

Etisalat plan

Dubai, Sept. 6: Emirates Telecom (Etisalat) is considering Idea Cellular as one of its potential investment targets in India. “There are many options in India and we are not excluding Idea Cellular,” Jamal Al-Jarwan, chief executive officer of Etisalat (international investments), said.

Mittal talks

New Delhi, Sept. 6: ArcelorMittal is in talks with Indiabulls to set up a mining joint venture in India. “It is essentially a mining joint venture to meet our coal requirement for power projects,” Indiabulls CEO Gagan Banga said.

Olive handset

Calcutta, Sept. 6: Olive Telecom has partnered Airtel for its handset Olive FrvrOn V-G2300. The users will get a free Airtel connection with the mobile handset.
