The Telegraph Auto Weekend Carnival was a three-day car and SUV show that pulled in enthusiasts, intending buyers and the curious. Held at City Centre Salt Lake last month, it was inaugurated by actor Riddhi Sen. The visitors, who had come from all over the city, pored over the shiny new vehicles on display and some of them also wanted to click selfies with the actor.
The companies whose vehicles were on display were Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen and Mahindra. Their best, smartest and latest car and SUV models were lined up at the Kund at City Centre Salt Lake.
Cars like the New Vento and New Polo from Volkswagen, Hyundai’s Venue, Creta, Elite i20 and Grand i10 Nios, Toyota’s Glanza, XUV 300 from Mahindra, Honda’s latest Amaze, Nissan’s Kicks, and S-Presso and new WagonR from Maruti Suzuki were the options.
“I have my eyes set on the Hyundai Venue and the Nissan Kicks. I love the car from Hyundai as it is spacious, easy to steer around tight corners and, most importantly, the tyres are perfect for driving both on-road and off-road. For the Nissan Kicks, I am simply a fan of the safety system and the digital features that come with this model. Best thing about these two cars is that they are fuel-efficient,” said Riddhi.
Riddhi checked out the interiors of Maruti Suzuki’s recently launched compact SUV S-Presso. He said: “The best thing about the car is its boot space. People won’t have to worry about carrying extra luggage or packing before making a sudden plan.” About the manufacturer, he said: “We all have an emotional connect with Maruti Suzuki. We have all, once at least, ridden in a Maruti as children.”

Hyundai had the maximum number of cars — four — at the show. They were the Venue, Grand i10 Nios, Elite i20 and Creta. Actor Riddhi Sen couldn’t resist opening the sunroof of the Venue and standing up through it. “The colour of the car is great; for me the colour really matters,” he said.

Vivek Poddar, a chartered accountant, who was at the carnival with his daughter, said: “When I think about buying a car, the first thing that crosses my mind is the space. I have a son and a daughter, and I am looking forward to buying a car that will be able to carry all four of us comfortably. I prefer a mini-wagon. So far, I have liked the S-Presso from Maruti Suzuki and the Hyundai Creta.”

Nupur Dey, a homemaker who visited the carnival with her family, said: “We are looking at the features before buying a car. It must also have low maintenance cost. We look at the specifications of a car and compare them with others we have shortlisted. We are planning to buy an SUV. It would be perfect in terms of space and luggage capacity.”
