THE PHILIPPINES

♦ Duterte is known for hardline policies, which according to rights groups amount to human rights abuses. In the past, Duterte has praised China, told Obama to “go to hell” and said he would humiliate him if he visited the Philippines.
 
KAZAKHSTAN

President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Trump is said to have stressed that under Nazarbayev the country had achieved fantastic success that can be called a “miracle”. 

♦ Nazarbayev has been in the hot-seat for more than 25 years. Kazakhstan has come under scrutiny for the ruling government’s undemocratic practices and human rights abuses during this time.
 
UNITED KINGDOM

Prime Minister Theresa May. Trump told her, “If you travel to the US, you should let me know.” 

♦ Trump’s casual tone has been dubbed “offensive” by the British media.

TAIWAN

President Tsai Ing-wen. During the discussion, they noted the close economic, political and security ties that exist between Taiwan and the US.

♦ The US has not had diplomatic relations with Taiwan since 1979 in keeping with its One China policy. 

PAKISTAN

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. According to the Pakistan government release, he said: “...you have a very good reputation. You are a terrific guy... I am ready and willing to play any role that you want me to play to address and find solutions to the outstanding problems.

♦ The Indian government has said it will look forward to Trump help Pakistan address “the most outstanding of its outstanding issues — terrorism”.

MEXICO

In this case, President Enrique Pena Nieto made the call. The two agreed to meet before Trump officially takes over.

♦ Trump has been hostile towards Mexicans and even promised to build a wall along the US-Mexico border to keep out Mexican immigrants.
