Dance institute Twist N Turns, that has a centre in Salt Lake’s BF Block, put up its eighth annual day at EZCC on December 1. The show was titled “Decoding emotions”.

With over 250 students participating, the event was divided into various sections. Those aged between three and 12 had “my dream school” as their themes and depicted how they would like to spend their days. So for “picnic day” the kids enacted a beach sequence, dancing to Shakira’s Addicted and for “cooking day” they dressed up as chefs and danced to Jennifer Lopez’s I’m goin’ in along with tomatoes and oranges as props.

“I’m very excited about today’s show as I’ll be dancing along with my friends. My father, uncle and grandmother have come to watch me,” smiled Krish Kanoia, a student of Class III who danced to Britney Spears’ Baby one more time in the “retro day” segment.

The older students, aged between 12 and 40, performed to international tracks depicting the emotions of the navras. The highlight was the “adbhutaras in which students dressed as aliens. For this, they wore black bodysuits that had LED lights glowing on them. They danced to Linkin Park’s Numb.

“Besides perfection in dance moves, we stress on the sets, props, make-up and costume as they enhance the overall experience and excite the dancers and viewers alike,” said Nikita Sangai, creative director of the show. “Our instructors Swarnav, Aditya, Imon, Debarati, Prantik and Avijit put in a great effort.” There was also a tango performance by Brazilian dancer Adriana Drix.

Flower show

A flower competition-cum-exhibition will be held on February 8 and 9 at AMP Baisakhi Mall. The show is being organised by Bidhannagar Horticultural Society in association with the mall.

There will be categories like Dahlias, Chrysanthemums, Marigolds, Petunias, cacti, suculents, palms, bonsai, vegetables, ornamental foliage etc.

Visit the mall office to pick up entry forms or call 9831901217 or 9433065573 for details.

View of the past

A three-day photo exhibition will be held at Indismart Hotel in Sector V, beginning today.

With Colonial Calcutta as theme, the show features shots taken by Gautam Das Sharma, who is exhibiting his work for the first time. “Gautam is a schoolmate who has been clicking excellent pictures in his spare time. I thought he deserves a platform,” said Suborno Bose, chief mentor of the Indismart Group.

“I had started putting together a collection on heritage buildings but soon was drawn to a number of structures, like Bow Barracks, the Madanmohan temple in Kumartuli and the house of Manmatha Ghosh in Pathuriaghata, that do not feature on the government’s heritage list. So I chose this theme instead.” The photographs, on view from 11am to 8pm in the weekend, have been clicked over eight months, he said.
